Welcome to the Longfellow Neighborhood Web site. We hope that the information provided here, in the form of a gallery (slide show) of scenes from the neighborhood, an online version of our newsletter The Long View, an exchange board, links to and venues in the community, events in the neighborhood, volunteering opportunities, an historic preservation update, contacts in the neighborhood, and the neighborhood association's by-lawsall of whose links appear in the menu to the left of the screenwill help you get to know the neighborhood and learn about the Longfellow Neighborhood Association (LNA). This site, coupled with The Long View quarterly newsletter, allows the LNA to keep you informed about events that are coming up as well as about any issues that may arise. The LNA was formed in 1991 by neighbors whose goals were to promote a sense of neighborhood and to be pro-active on issues which affect the quality of life in the neighborhood. The Association has pursued these goals with vigor and reasonable success. Our neighborhood, of roughly nine hundred households, reflects all sectors of society. Young families, singles, and retirees all live side by side. Residents are active in civic affairs, serving on City boards and commissions as well as on City Council and environmental organizations. All residents contribute, each in his or her own unique manner, to the vitality of the Longfellow Neighborhood. Architectural diversity on tree-lined streets adds to the character of the area. Diversity in housing style is represented in the Craftsman bungalows, Prairie-style four squares, Queen Anne houses, Moffit stone cottages, and nineteenth-century mansions. Frame homes predominate, but stucco, brick, and stone structures keep the mix lively. We hope that you will visit the Web site often, and we look forward to seeing you at neighborhood meetings and events. |
